![]() In terms of scale, however, designer Gill Parker suggested Guy think bigger-like, globally. He added that since the cat was forced by humans to travel in a rocket against her will, it also seemed insensitive to memorialize her in that way. Guy originally envisioned a Felicette statue sitting upon a rocket, but he said recently that this has been ruled out due to the practical problems involved with juxtaposing a large rocket with a small cat. Now, a design for the memorial is starting to come into focus after some soul-searching. The Felicette statue will share space in the university’s Pioneer’s Hall with a bust of Yuri Gagarin, the Soviet cosmonaut who became the first man and human to travel to outer space in 1961-a couple of years before Felicette’s own journey. Ultimately, this space cat was euthanized for further study.Įarlier this year, a location for Felicette’s crowdfunded monument was nailed down: International Space University in Strasbourg, France. ![]() The feline astronaut was launched on a French rocket in 1963, experiencing weightlessness and splashdown before being studied for a few months. Matthew Serge Guy led a 2017 Kickstarter campaign, with 1,141 donors pledging more than $57,000 toward the design and creation of a monument to Felicette. They don't show you the 'built in sun finder' - one of the coolest things about a telescope I've ever seen. The effort to erect a memorial to honor the only cat known to have traveled to space and back is making some progress. Saw this solar telescope in action recently. Our friend Lucy West-Binnall contributed art to this publication! Planisphere - choose for your Latitude (the Equator is 0 degrees, the further North or South, the greater the number) It isn’t quite the game I would have created but it is close enough that I would like to see it out there for people to play. I haven’t seen enough marketing and there are way too many low level tiers for something of this magnitude. So, we have a great game but a lousy campaign. Why? To someone who has the cash and wants to get something out of the funding, how is $10 different from $15? Why have a $10 level? Heck, make a $25 level & a $50 level and do away with the other 4 tiers.Īlso, $95 and $100? Why? How is $95 different from $100 to anyone with the budget and interest to fund in that area? However, there are then 6 levels between $10 and $60 (inclusive). It doesn’t drive you to your goal but it helps create a community. The $5 level is a nice way for people of low funds to support the project without expecting anything but thanks in return. ![]() It is too easy to make a contribution that gives only a small fraction of the goal. I think that they shot themselves in the foot with this. They need to do a big push NOW.Īs for the structure of the funding, they have too many tiers. They are about one fifth of their way to their funding goal and they only have 6 days left. Now I will discuss the Kickstarter campaign.įirst, they need better marketing. In Kickstarter: Space Pioneer – Review (Part 1), I talked about Space Pioneer, the game.
